Teen
Leadership Institute
This ministry is dedicated to educating,
equipping and encouraging youth to
become leaders. The institute introduces,
develops, and nurtures leadership
skills among the youth who participate
by providing classroom experiences,
leadership experiences that enhance
self-esteem, interactions with leaders
from various enterprises in our area,
and projects that encourage involvement
in all levels of community life.
This ministry is designed to accommodate
20 teens, ages 13 through 16 years.
Taught by three certified teachers
these young people experience leadership
through classroom experiences, fieldtrips,
guest speakers, exploring career experiences
through a local organization, The
Youth Career Café.
The classroom curriculum uses two
leadership books as textbooks: “
The
Leadership Challenge” by Kouzes
and Posner, and
“
The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”
by John Maxwell.
The young people take fieldtrips each
Wednesday afternoon to visit local
enterprises in the area, and to talk
with the leaders of those enterprises.
This provides the opportunity to see
leadership in action, and to have
questions answered by leaders in the
field. During the last week of the
program, the students take a trip
to Washington, DC to visit the capitol
building as well as other areas of
interest as they relate to leadership.
The Youth Career Café offers services
to all youths. It provides information
about instruction opportunities for
interviewing skills; Workplace readiness;
career development; career monitoring,
and; career interest assessments.
It also provides opportunities such
as coaching; career requirements;
college and university opportunities;
scholarships & grants, and: technical
schools and apprenticeships. Our students
go to the Youth Career Café once each
week.
Through creative teaching, lots of
activities, and a wealth of experiences,
our students thrive as they learn
more about leadership, and as they
develop the leader that is within
each of them.

Dates and Time
The Youth Leadership Institute will
be held during the summer. It will
begin on June 18th and end on July
27th, 2012. The daily schedule for
the students is 8:30 AM until 1:30
PM. On Wednesdays when the students
take their fieldtrips the day will
end at 3:00 PM, or as soon as they
return from the field trip.
Materials and Meals
All instructional materials are provided.
Lunch is provided each day.
Transportation
Transportation to and from the building
is not provided.
Cost
The cost of the program per student
for the six weeks is $150.00
